Citizens for Garrido for Judge

Here is a statement from John Garrido himself and why we believe John is WELL QUALIFIED to be Judge: I believe a judge needs to be fair, impartial and decisive when adjudicating a case. A judge needs to listen to all of the testimony of witnesses, examine the exhibits, focus on the arguments of counsel and let them try their case. I will bring a unique perspective to the bench. Being a Chicago Police Officer for over 29 years has given me life experience that will be an asset to help in adjudicating cases. Working as an undercover narcotics officer, a violent crimes detective, a homicide sergeant, a tactical lieutenant and currently as a watch operations lieutenant has given me many opportunities to work closely with the State’s Attorney’s office to put cases together and testify at trials. I have prepared and executed hundreds of search warrants and arrest warrants. I have worked on and supervised at least 100 homicide investigations. I have conducted at least 200 narcotics investigations. I have approved hundreds of arrests at the initial probable cause phase. I have also seen the result of poor investigations and witnessed the impact to the victims and suspects in those investigations. Victims want justice and suspects want a fair process. There is nothing worse than arresting the wrong person; victims and suspects both suffer when that happens. I have over 18 years of law enforcement experience as a supervisor; giving me the skills to analyze and guide investigations to their completion. I have also seen the heartbreak of victim’s families and the devastation of offender’s families that are torn apart by their actions. In addition to my police experience, my wife and I co-founded Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation. We have helped rescue over 600 animals in that past few years. Our mission is helping lost pets get back to their families. Thanks to our network of amazing volunteers, we have an 82% return to owner rate. We also have taken in severely abused animals. From starvation to torturing animals by pouring boiling water on them, we have helped these animals recover from their injuries and find loving homes to give them the lives they deserve. We also initiated a court advocacy component of our rescue and work closely with Safe Humane Chicago. Hundreds of volunteers show up in court to advocate for justice for these abused animals and hold animal abusers accountable. I have seen the correlation between animal abuse and domestic violence. By holding these offenders accountable on the animal abuse cases, we may help prevent domestic violence down the road. I am deeply involved in my community. I helped organize one of the largest street festivals on the northwest side of Chicago; The Gladstone Park Throwback Music Fest helps raise money for a neighborhood scholarship fund. We are also in our 9th year of ROCK THE BADGES and have raised over $70,000 for the families of Chicago Police Officers and Firefighters killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty.
