In November 2020, Little Rock residents will be able to elect a 9-member school board for the Little Rock School District. I hope to be one of those people. I am excited to announce that I am running for the Little Rock School District Zone 4. The fight for the district is not over. We will have a school board but the board will have limits on their authority until the district is no longer in level 5 support from the State Board of Education. I believe access to quality public education is the foundation for society. The saying “It takes a village to raise a child” is true. We need our village to help every student in the Little Rock School District succeed. There have been many changes in the last several years in the district, with little to no input from the community. The conflict with the State Board of Education has ignited the community and increased community involvement. It is paramount that the next school board capitalize on this and move it forward to make the Little Rock School District the school district every child deserves. Raised in Arkansas, I am a parent of a student in the district and my spouse is a teacher in the district. I am a licensed clinical social worker and earned a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree in social work from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. I hold a dual position at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and UAMS. I currently serve on the board of Sickle Cell of Arkansas, a newly formed nonprofit focused on helping patients and families impacted by sickle cell disease. Collectively, this firmly entrenches me in the promotion of the greater good of the students in the Little Rock School District. I plan to do everything in my ability to serve every student in the district. Every student matters #PuttingStudentsFirst #CommunityEngagement #RestoreOurSchoolDistrict
