Elect Dallas J. Guymon. People over Politics.

My name is Dallas J. Guymon and I am running to be your Utah state house representative in district 71. I hope in this short introduction that I may answer why I am running for office, and hopefully leave with you a good first impression. 

I am running because I want to help solve the challenges facing us today. I believe President Theadore Roosevelt put it best when he said that “it is not the critic that counts…(but) the man who is actually in the arena...” I am running because I want to be that man in the arena. I want to fight on our community’s behalf. It goes without saying that we are in a trying time. We have been tried by an unstable economy, government overreach, lack of adequate health care, and disconcerting water shortages. These issues threaten every Utahn, but I believe that these issues can be solved. Not by myself alone, but by every person. I want to work for our local leaders and ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed because local issues require local solutions. I want to bring Southern Utah to Salt Lake and not Salt Lake to Southern Utah. 

I am running because I believe that people should come before politics. It is amazing, but not surprising, to see that George Washington was right when he warned that politicians would become more loyal to their political parties than the people they are supposed to serve. Our current state representatives have proven the adage that one can love their state, but not their government. I love Utah. And by our growing census, more and more people are falling in love with our great state and even greater county. We need politicians now more than ever who will remember the people when they write their bills and place their votes. I will be that representative who remembers the people. I want to represent all Utahns no matter their religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual-orientation, or any other identity because the most important identity they have to me is citizen. And as your representative, I will ensure that everyone’s rights are protected.

Now I wouldn’t be a good politician if I didn’t ask, can I count on your vote this November?
