Evan is a former CIA agent running as an independent to replace far-right incumbent, Mike Lee. The Utah Democratic Party voted to endorse Evan and join his cross-partisan coalition, making this a 2-way race. This race is one of the most competitive in the country with Evan holding a 1-point lead over Mike Lee in recent polling. McMullin's popularity has continued to increase while Lee's numbers have declined, with the majority of Utahns disapproving of the job Lee has done.
