I’m running for the office of Coroner for Bingham County because I believe I am the best candidate for this position and will make sure every member of our community and their families will receive the highest level of service when they are faced with the loss of a loved one. Your donation to my campaign will help me to move Bingham County forward and do what is right for our bereaved families and public health.
Thank you for your support!
Here is why I'm running and my qualifications:
In 2004 my father was the victim of a homicide near Idaho City and although that was tragic for our family in many ways, discovering the flawed system of death investigation was almost more disheartening. Finding out that there are many Coroners who are not experienced, knowledgeable or educated in medicolegal death investigation has motivated me for 18 years to take programs at some of the most respected schools in our country and even traveling abroad to learn how it’s done in Europe.
I retired from 30+ years in emergency services working as a Firefighter/Paramedic, training officer, quality assurance officer, grant writer, and liaison to many government agencies, graduated from the Plymouth (MA) Police Academy in 2013, served with US Navy Reserve as a corpsman (medic) assigned to the United States Marine Corps, and spent 6 months following 9/11 doing search & rescue/recovery at the World Trade Center, working with FDNY Engine 16/Ladder 7.
In 2018, I moved home, to Blackfoot, where I was built and where my family lives. After taking care of our home and cowboying for a couple of cattlemen in the area and the loss of my grandmother last summer I offered my knowledge, skills, and abilities to Bingham County Coroner's Office.
I currently and proudly hold the position of Chief Deputy Coroner for Bingham County and since in office I have been able to help the county respond to reports of death, attend autopsies, conduct trainings, and secure a $130,000 grant from FEMA to help us care for our Decedents and assist other communities in the case of mass disasters.
I have spent the last 6 months initially volunteering, and now working, for the Ada County Coroner’s Office as a Medicolegal Death Investigator. Having passed their rigorous in-house certification process I’m grateful to have the opportunity to work with an office who meets the national standard for death investigations and be able to bring that high quality service back the citizens of Bingham County.
Currently I sit on the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners Ethics committee and will be sitting for my board certification exam with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators in July of this year.
