Myra Jones is a 30+ year resident of Mount Pleasant, having raised her family here, and devoted her spare time – when not working as a paralegal – to community service. Over the last year, she has worked tirelessly and diligently as a Director of the Charleston Beach Foundation. That work culminated in the enactment of a law ensuring that, never again, will a municipality restrict access to public roadways that lead to our state’s public beaches without prior approval of the State Department of Transportation. While her efforts as a citizen and director of the nonprofit were hugely successful, we know that those individuals in elected positions have the power to make the important decisions for our community. Myra is seeking a seat at the table of Mount Pleasant Town Council to have a more meaningful and active role in government.

Although Myra was born in Sumter, her family roots are deep in Charleston, going back to the mid-1700’s. Myra grew up West Ashley, graduated from St. Andrews High School, and lived in Arizona and California before coming home in 1986. She has lived in Mount Pleasant since 1990.

Myra’s parents were from the Greatest Generation. Her father served in the Navy during WWII. He mother was a real “Rosie the Riveter” during the war and then joined the Navy. Together, her parents ran their “Mom & Pop” pharmacy in Avondale. Myra learned from them the value of hard work and the duty to give your time and efforts back to your community.

Over the years, Myra has assisted charitable organizations such as the Carolina Youth Development Center, First Tee Program, Carolina Film Alliance and Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina. She has also served on the Paralegal Advisory Committee at Trident Technical College for 25 years, in various volunteer positions at her children’s schools (Wando High School and Charleston County School of the Arts) and at her church, Bethel United Methodist Church.

Myra Jones began working in the legal field at age 16 on Broad Street downtown, and has continued working as a legal assistant and paralegal for the last 46 years, working in small and large firms, a city attorney’s office and now in the office of General Counsel at The InterTech Group, Inc.

Myra and her husband, David, have two adult sons, Guy “Bubba” Bryant and Jonathan Jones. Their daughter, Chrissy Bryant Helfenstein passed away in 2019, but gifted them with 4 grandsons, one of which lives in Mt. Pleasant
