Ulrick Humes Meighan has lived in a number of children’s homes in Belize since the age of 6. Against many odds, he has grown into a strong, caring, responsible young man who hopes to make a better life for himself through education - and basketball.
Several of us have met Ulrick over the years and have kept in touch in person and online. We have seen him in Belize, and he has visited a few of us in the states. We are all impressed with his determination to rise above his circumstances. He has recently completed his Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Sacred Heart Junior College in Belize, and he stays out of trouble and off the streets by playing basketball and volunteering at King's Children's Home where he lived before turning 18.
Ulrick has been accepted for enrollment at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. Because many of his Associate's Degree credits are transferring with him, he will step onto campus as a junior! He will be playing basketball there and has received an international student merit scholarship. Even with the scholarship, room/board/tuition/books will cost $24,000 this first year.
Once at school, Ulrick plans to work on-campus to help with some of his expenses.
Our goal is to get the first year funded. Once Ulrick shows that he is doing well in the school year 2022-23, we will look to help support him in the next year.
