I am Brenson Ravenell, a community advocate, retired U.S. Air Force veteran, and the father of a six-year-old who attends public schooling. I currently serve the residents of Dorchester County as the District 1 representative for the Dorchester County Transportation Committee. I was born and raised here and bring a unique perspective and wealth of experience from the federal government and the public sector. This community is my home, and I am deeply committed to serving and improving it.
I am running for Dorchester District 4 School Board—Seat 1 because I care deeply about the quality of education and our children's future. Our school, teachers, and scholars need all the resources possible, and I look forward to assisting them.
My primary goal is to invest in local public education and ensure our schools receive the necessary resources to be successful. This means not just providing resources, but also bridging the gap between the community and the district, and focusing on transparency for the citizens of DD4. I am committed to keeping you informed and involved in the decisions that affect our schools, and to accelerating the hiring process and implementing policies to retain our excellent educators within our community.
My diverse background and proven leadership sets me apart in this race. As a sergeant police officer in the military, I know the importance of safety and security during a time in our country when students and educators should feel safe to teach and learn. My experience on Nebraska's Foster Care Review Board sparked my passion for education and motivated me to ensure that our children receive a quality education despite what they may be experiencing. Moreover, I am the president/founder of Real Vet Talk, a veteran non-profit for which I've received several community involvement awards and decorations for my leadership and service. Also, I am the President of the Columbia National Black Law Student Association Pre-Law chapter at USC, where I currently attend schooling on track to obtain my Master's in Public Administration.
With this wealth of experience, I am committed to keeping politics out of schools. My focus is on working for Dorchester District Four's students, educators, and families, ensuring that our schools remain a safe and nurturing environment for learning. You can trust that I will always put the needs of our community first.
