Tom Joe Barrow was born in Detroit's old Black Bottom neighborhood at Paradise Valley’s Kirwood Negro hospital on East Kirby and John R. The nephew of World Heavy Weight Champion Joe Louis ‘Barrow’, Tom began in the Brewster Projects until I-75 forced his family out. He was raised on Kercheval and Hurlbut on the city’s lower east side and has never lived in any city but Detroit. He continues to reside today, just blocks from his childhood home. A RealDetroiter!
