Laurie-Anne was elected to the Gaithersburg City Council in 2017, making history as the Council’s first African American member. She chaired the Community and Economic Development Committee of the National League of Cities and served on NLC’s Board of Directors. She has used her CED experience to lead Gaithersburg in developing toolkits designed to support local businesses and entrepreneurs and encourage housing construction for low-income residents and the elderly. She is endorsed by former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, Kate Stewart, the Mayor of Takoma Park, State Senator Susan Lee, Kerri Cook, Mayor of Poolesville, and Jeffrey Slavin, Mayor of the town of Somerset, to name a few.
