My professional experience affords me over 30 years of domestic and international business experience including marketing, public relations, project management, corporate training, and small business ownership. The knowledge acquired while working with diverse populations, and the experience gained through challenges and responsibilities in these positions, leaves me capable, resourceful, efficient, and dependable to serve on the Mount Pleasant Town Council.
I have lived here for over 20 years. My husband, Jeff, and I built Blackbeard’s Cove Family Fun Park here in 2003, where we were operational owners through 2010. We experienced first-hand how impact fees, inflation, inspections, zoning ordinances, and community can positively or negatively affect a small business. I believe it’s vitally important for Mount Pleasant to nurture the relationship with our small business owners, while attracting and retaining new small businesses with regard to affordability, opportunity, and sustainability.
I served as Chair for the School Improvement Council (SIC) for both Jennie Moore Elementary and Laing Middle School of Science and Technology from 2010-2018. I witnessed how exponential growth in our town adversely affected our schools and the number of seats in them, technology to student ratios, and the traffic to and from school, be it by car or by bus. I fought hard for the new school buildings of JME and LMS to be built with consideration for potential growth and for the new zoning to support neighborhood schools. Also, I currently serve on the State SC-SIC Board of Trustees and have served in this capacity since 2015.
Both of my parents worked for the government when serving your government was a highly prestigious calling, and you were expected to aspire to a higher level of standards. There seems to be a widening disparity today between democracy and simple respect. Serving on the Town Council, I want to aspire to those higher standards. I want to be integrally involved in the conversation about how Mount Pleasant will accommodate our future growth and change. I encourage you to participate in that conversation, too. I want to serve you, the people, and the community. In doing so I pledge to give my 100% effort to:
· Preserve the natural beauty of our environment and create more green spaces.
· Keep Mount Pleasant safe ensuring enough fire stations, fire trucks, and personnel, with both fire and police departments.
· Attract new small businesses and retain current ones to keep our unique Lowcountry charm.
· Work with critical parties to decrease the congestion and traffic that stifles our roads.
I welcome the invitation to meet with you personally, or with your group, club, or organization. I want to hear your thoughts, likes, and concerns about our beautiful town. I want to extend the invitation to you, to vote for me, Shari Sebuck, for Mount Pleasant Town Council on November 2nd.
