Kent Setterberg P.L.S. for Salt Lake County Surveyor

My name is Kent Setterberg and I am running for the Office of Salt Lake County Surveyor.

I was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. I've been happily married to my wife for 26 years, I have 2 children, 7 grandkids, and 1 great-granddaughter.

I am a licensed Professional Surveyor with the State of Utah and a member of the Utah Council of Land Surveyors. I have been employed with the Salt Lake County Surveyor’s Office for almost 30 years and have gained extensive knowledge in the field of land surveying. Through those years, I have taken advantage of opportunities that came within the Surveyor's office in order to expand my education, training and experience. I developed a passion for how surveying impacts landowners and their property rights. This passion motivated me to pursue a Geomatics degree in Land Surveying, which resulted in acquiring my Professional Land Surveyor license with the State of Utah.

My main goal is to protect and preserve the Public Land Survey System, which is a grid of survey monuments set in the 1850’s throughout the County. This system is essential to all property surveys in the County and is shared by the County’s property tax system.

Another goal is that with the advancement of surveying technology, the equipment has become more compact. I propose downsizing to smaller trucks which will save the taxpayers money in the long run and lessen our carbon footprint.

Land surveying is in dire straits. The average age of a surveyor in Utah is 53 years old. We need more young people to be involved in the field of surveying. I will be looking forward to connecting with these young people by attending career day events at schools to raise awareness and interest in the exciting and rewarding field of land surveying.
