Help a Mother Recover Without Leaving Her Children Behind

No mother should have to choose between getting the help she needs and keeping her children by her side.

As the Founder and CEO of SHINE Recovery, I have had the privilege of walking alongside people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. I have watched individuals come through our doors carrying fear, uncertainty, and years of hurt—and I have watched what can happen when someone finally has a community that believes in them.

But there is one question that continues to weigh heavily on my heart:

Where does a mother in recovery go when she has children?

In Lake County, Indiana, there are limited recovery housing options designed to allow women to live with their children while receiving the structure, accountability, and support they need to rebuild their lives.

We want to help change that.

We Are Building SHINE House

SHINE House Recovery Home for Women & Children will provide a safe, structured, family-centered home where mothers can continue their recovery journey while remaining connected to their children.

I don't just envision a recovery facility.

I envision a home.

A place where a mother can tuck her child into bed at night.

A kitchen where families can sit together for dinner.

A table where children can do their homework.

A safe place where a woman can focus on recovery, find employment, strengthen her parenting skills, continue treatment, save money, and prepare for independent living.

Most importantly, I envision a mother going to sleep knowing:

“My children are safe. I am safe. And tomorrow we get another chance.”

Your Donation Can Help Open That Door

Through SHINE Recovery Café, we already provide recovery circles, peer support, meals, transportation, life-skills programming, resource assistance, and connections to treatment, healthcare, employment, and other community resources.

But recovery becomes incredibly difficult when someone leaves our doors and still doesn't know where she and her children are going to sleep.

Housing is the missing piece we are working to provide.

Your donation can help us furnish bedrooms, provide beds and household necessities, purchase children's supplies, provide transportation, support recovery programming and staffing, and meet the everyday needs of mothers and children beginning again.

When you give, you aren't just buying a bed—you are giving a mother somewhere safe to sleep.

You aren't just furnishing a bedroom—you are helping give a child stability.

You aren't simply supporting another program—you are helping a family heal together.

Help Us Welcome Our First Family Home

One day, I want to stand at the front door of SHINE House and hand our first mother her key.

I want to watch her children walk into their room.

And I want that mother to know that people throughout our community—people she may never meet—believed that her recovery, her children, and her future were worth investing in.

That is the moment your donation can help make possible.

Every gift brings us one step closer to opening that door.
