Five years ago, my life changed irrevocably. After losing my job at Riverside, I received a devastating diagnosis: lymphoma. Amid the turmoil of job loss and battling cancer, I faced profound boredom and helplessness during my chemotherapy sessions. This period tested my resolve, challenging me to find a sense of purpose despite my circumstances. Determined to redefine this chapter of my life, I decided to enroll in an MBA program. This decision wasn't just about career advancement; it was about reclaiming control over my life and igniting a beacon of hope for myself and my family. My decision sparked a wave of inspiration within my family. Moved by my dedication, my daughters, Kelsey and Lindsey, embarked on their own academic journeys in Mechanical Engineering and Geophysics, respectively. We embraced a friendly competition to see who could graduate first. Despite the odds, I completed my MBA in just 15 months—before both my daughters. This achievement wasn't just a personal victory; it was a testament to the power of perseverance and the inspirational ripple effects our choices can have on our loved ones.
Raised in the modest surroundings of Jerome on a dairy farm, my childhood was shaped by the values of hard work and simplicity. Despite a loving home, we lived simply, with little financial room for luxuries. Early on, I recognized the limitations of our lifestyle and aspired to provide a more abundant life for my future family. Fueled by the desire to exceed my parents' financial achievements, I pursued higher education and embraced the challenge of dual employment. My goal was clear: to ensure financial stability and happiness for my family. Today, I continue to work two jobs, but I do so with fulfillment and pride. I have succeeded in securing a comfortable life for my family, achieving my goal of surpassing my parents' economic status..
Growing up on a dairy farm taught me the value of hard work—but also the sting of exclusion, as I was often sidelined in farm activities simply because I was a girl. This early experience of gender discrimination left a lasting impression and shaped my views on equality and personal freedom. These lessons have driven me to advocate for less restrictive legislations and greater personal freedoms in my role as a local government official. I strive to represent and vote in the best interests of my constituents, promoting a balance that has been missing in our local government for decades.
Pocatello's natural beauty was always apparent, but its potential for accessible outdoor enjoyment was not being fully realized. The city’s trails were underdeveloped, making it difficult for residents to enjoy the scenic routes by foot or bicycle. I chose to get involved with the Portneuf Greenway Foundation to change this. As Executive Director, I was determined to see our community benefit from a fully connected greenway system. Through relentless fundraising and community engagement, we transformed the greenway into a vibrant, year-round recreational spot that boosts our community's health and economic vitality.
Your support can continue to enhance our community’s infrastructure and recreational spaces. Let’s keep building together for a better Bannock County.
